Stripping and waxing floors is a multi-step process designed to remove old layers of wax, dirt, and grime, restoring the floor to a like-new appearance and protecting it with a fresh finish. This process enhances durability and extends the floor's lifespan 

Preparation and Safety:

• Determine floor type and choose appropriate products: Different floors, such as vinyl composition tile (VCT), linoleum, concrete, and terrazzo, require specific stripping and waxing solutions to prevent damage. Test the stripper in an inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility.
• Clear the area:Remove all furniture, rugs, and obstructions from the floor space.
• Ensure ventilation and safety precautions: Open windows and doors to provide adequate ventilation. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, goggles or safety glasses, and non-slip shoes.
• Set up safety barriers:Place "wet floor" or "caution" signs to alert others of potential hazards and prevent accidental entry into the work area.
• Gather materials:Prepare cleaning supplies, stripping solution, floor sealer, and wax based on the floor type and manufacturer's instructions.

Floor Stripping:

• Clean and dust mop:Thoroughly sweep or dust mop the area to remove loose dirt and debris before applying the stripping solution.
• Prepare and apply stripping solution: Working in manageable sections (e.g., 10x10 foot areas), apply the solution evenly to the floor using a mop, ensuring the floor is wet but not flooded.
• Dwell time:Allow the solution to dwell for the recommended time (typically 3-10 minutes, depending on the stripper and the number of wax layers), but do not allow it to dry. Re-apply if drying occurs.
• Scrub the floor:Using a low-speed floor machine with a black stripping pad, scrub the floor to agitate the old wax and loosen dirt. Use a doodlebug or scrub brush for corners and edges.
• Remove stripper and old wax:Use a wet/dry vacuum, squeegee, or mop to remove the stripped slurry (stripper and loosened wax).
• Rinsing and Neutralizing:
• Rinse the floor:Thoroughly rinse the floor with clean water at least two to three times to remove all chemical residue from the stripping solution.
• Neutralize (if required):Depending on the stripping solution, you may need to apply a neutralizing solution to balance the floor's pH. Rinse again with clean water after neutralization.
• Dry the floor:Allow the floor to dry completely before applying any new finish. Fans can be used to accelerate drying.

Sealing (Optional, but recommended):

• Apply floor sealer:Apply a floor sealer to provide a base coat that helps protect the floor and improve wax adhesion. It can also help fill pores in the flooring material, reducing the amount of finish needed later.
• Allow to dry: Let the sealer dry completely before proceeding to the waxing stage.

Waxing the Floor:

• Prepare wax:Choose the appropriate wax for your floor type and prepare it as per the manufacturer's instructions.
• Apply wax:Using a clean applicator or mop, apply the wax evenly in thin layers, working your way backward from the farthest point to the exit.
• Allow dwell time between coats:Let each layer of wax dry completely before applying the next coat. Typically, 3-5 coats are recommended for optimal durability and shine. 
• Buffing (optional):After the final coat has dried completely, buff the floor to enhance the shine and ensure an even finish. This should be done no sooner than 24-48 hours after the last coat.

Aftercare:

• Maintain the floor:Regularly dust mop, clean spills promptly with a pH-neutral cleaner, and follow the manufacturer's recommendations for re-waxing schedules (typically every 6 to 12 months, or more often for high-traffic areas).
